It's A Wonder
“It’s a wonder He doesn’t lose His temper and do away with the whole lot of us!” Ephesians 2:4 The Message
Last night there was a rainbow over our house. Just hanging around as if trying to find a place to set its pot of gold. Brenda pointed it out to me, and we paused to watch the colors traverse our back yard, each tinting the orchids a new hue of love.
According to Moses the storyteller, God hung the first rainbow over Noah’s ark somewhere in the mountains of Ararat. It was a symbol, God said, that He would never lose His temper and flood away “the whole lot of us,” again. The “Rainbow of Promise,” they called it.
Last night it hung above the swamps of Orlando, broadcasting the same beautiful promise, but with a new and better twist. Here’s how Preacher Paul described God’s promise of love in his letter to the believers in Ephesus (and Orlando):
“We let the world, which doesn’t know the first thing about living, tell us how to live. We fill our lungs with polluted unbelief and then exhale disobedience…It’s a wonder He doesn’t lose His temper and do away with the whole lot of us!”
“Instead, immense in mercy and with an incredible love, He embraces us!”
It truly is a “Rainbow of God’s Promises.”
1. I will hug you, and forgive your failures.
2. I will take your sin-dead life and make you ALIVE in Jesus Christ!
It’s a Wonder, and I love its squeeze!
